TotalEnergies awards contract for its mega-project in Iraq

BAGHDAD, January 19, 2024 – Energy giant TotalEnergies has signed a contract with Vallourec for supply of casing and tubing for its Gas Growth Integrated Project in Iraq, the contractor announced on Tuesday.

Under the deal, Vallourec will supply 15,000 tonnes of its patented VAM connections for the first 30 wells of the project.

The product will be supplied from its Brazilian and European plants.

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2024.

 

“We are delighted to have been chosen by TotalEnergies for the first stage of this flagship project in Iraq,” said Group Chairman and CEO Philippe Guillemot.

“In addition to the drilling, our team is fully committed to working with our long-standing partner to support all future phases of this multi-energy project.”

Value of the deal was not disclosed.

The developments fall under Iraq’s Gas Growth Integrated Project, which aims to up the country’s power generation capacity and gas production.

The French energy giant signed the USD 27-billion contract to begin construction of four energy projects in the country in July 2023.

TotalEnergies will take a 45% stake in the project, with QatarEnergy taking a 25% stake and state-owned Basrah Oil Company taking the remaining 30% stake.
