Petrotrin facilities vandalised

Trinidad and Tobago’s state-owned Petrotrin announced on Wednesday that its facilities at the Central Los Bajos field had been sabotaged, causing a fire and oil spill.

The company said personnel had discovered the vandalism late Tuesday night while on a routine check of the facilities and reported a fire in a chemical warehouse, an oil spill caused by tampering with valves on two tanks, and interference in four other tanks that had been empty.

Petrotrin immediately dispatched fire and HSE responders to put out the flames, stop the spill and begin clean-up operations.

In a separate incident on Saturday, an oil leak from a corroded high-pressure oil and gas line connecting to Petrotrin’s Mossetville manifold was reported. Oil was spilling into the Vistabella River, which feeds into the Gulf of Paria. The NOC helped with clean-up efforts and shut the line off to prevent further leakage.
