Poland gas demand to surge 60%
Poland With current demand at 20 bcm per year, Poland’s use of gas will rise as a new wave of gas-fired power plants come on line.
The country’s main gas firm, PGNiG, currently imports most of its gas from Russia’s Gazprom through the Yamal pipeline, but this contract expires in 2022.
Readying for a shift away from dependence on Russian supplies, Poland is constructing a series of gas import infrastructure projects, such as the Baltic Pipe, a 10-bcm-per-year line from Norwegian gasfields.
The country is also expanding its LNG terminal in Świnoujście to import 7.5 bcm per year, as well as installing an FSRU in Gdansk with a planned annual capacity of at least 4.5 bcm-12.0 bcm, according to a report from Reuters.
