Qatar charters five new LNG carriers
Qatar The LNG transport vessels will each have a capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and be equipped with carbon-cutting technology.
They will be built by China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and are expected to be delivered in 2025.
The five assets add up to a total of 12 newbuild LNG carriers awarded by QatarEnergy to the consortium, including seven long-term charter contracts signed in August 2022.
The offshore consortium consists of Malaysian NOC Petronas’ subsidiary MISC, Japanese marine service companies Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and China LNG Shipping.
The new vessels will be used to export Qatar’s raised LNG production capacity, which aims to reach 126 million tonnes per year from its current 77 million tonnes per year.
