QatarEnergy LNG awards FEED works for CCS project

DOHA, September 25, 2023 – Worley has signed a FEED contract with QatarEnergy LNG for CCS facilities at the Ras Laffan project in Qatar, the American-Australian engineering giant announced on Monday.

Worley will provide the FEED study and EPC scope of work on the project through its teams in Qatar and Australia.

Works are expected to be completed in 2024.

New compression trains and pipelines will need to be built following the FEED study.

The goal of the project is to capture 4.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year from seven trains at QG North and three LNG trains in QG South.

Carbon dioxide will be captured from the trains, compressed and injected into new injection wells.

“We’ve worked alongside QatarEnergy LNG for over a decade and this project further supports Qatar on its sustainability journey,” said Nawar Chapman, country manager for Qatar and Kuwait of Worley.

Cost of the FEED contract was not disclosed.

In September 2023, Qatargas changed its name to QatarEnergy LNG.

The company currently operates 14 LNG trains and is a central player in Qatar’s goal to up its LNG production capacity to 126 million tonnes per year.
