Sadara, SATORP facilities inaugurated

RIYADH, November 30, 2016 – Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud officially inaugurated the Sadara Petrochemicals Complex and the Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP) site on Tuesday.

The two facilities, which became operational in 2015 and 2014, respectively, underpin the Saudi Vision 2030 diversification strategy. Commenting on their inauguration, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mines Khalid Al Falih said both projects “represent a bold undertaking” for Saudi Aramco and its partners. “It is a major driver in achieving our goals of greater integration and value addition,” he added.

The SATORP joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Total dates back to 2008. The 400,000-bpd refinery started operations in 2014. Sadara is a partnership between Aramco and Dow. It first started producing products in 2015, with the construction and delivery of the whole industrial complex scheduled for full completion by the end of 2016.
