Saipem wins $425-million contract for gasfield offshore Turkey
Turkey ANKARA, December 31, 2025 – Saipem has won a USD 425-million contract from Turkish Petroleum OTC for the extension of the Sakarya gasfield development in the Black Sea, the company said on Wednesday.
The deal covers the EPCI of three subsea pipelines totalling around 153 kilometres to link the newly discovered Goktepe field to existing Sakarya phase 3 infrastructure. Located at a depth of 2,200 metres and around 80 kilometres from the main field, Goktepe will boost gas output upon completion of the works. Saipem’s Castorone pipelay vessel will carry out offshore operations in H2 2027, with the project expected to last 2.5 years.
In May, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced Goktepe discovery, which holds an estimated 75 bcm (2.6 tcf) of natural gas valued at USD 30 billion.
This latest award follows a prior agreement signed in September 2025 and reinforces Saipem’s strategic presence in Turkey’s energy sector.
The Sakarya gasfield is Turkey’s first major deepwater gas discovery and the largest ever found in the country, located around 170 kilometres off the northern coast in the Black Sea. Discovered in 2020, the field is operated by Turkish Petroleum and is central to Turkey’s plans to reduce energy import dependency, with production having begun in 2023.

It specialises in offshore and onshore EPCI projects and owns a fleet of 17 construction vessels and 12 drilling rigs.
