Qatar signs agreement to supply LNG to Egypt
DOHA, January 5, 2026 – QatarEnergy has signed an MoU with Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to enhance LNG trade and supply Egyptian import terminals, QatarEnergy announced on Sunday.
Under the agreement, QatarEnergy will deliver up to 24 LNG cargoes to Egypt’s Ain Sokhna and Damietta ports for the 2026 summer period. Egypt is working to diversify gas import sources and stabilise supplies to complement domestic gas production, which has been in decline since late 2022.
“This MoU further strengthens our bilateral relationship as we work jointly towards additional supplies of long-term LNG from QatarEnergy to meet Egypt’s growing demand for energy. We look forward to collaborating with the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and with all our partners in Egypt to further strengthen our cooperation and to support Egypt with its future LNG requirements,” said Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, president and CEO of QatarEnergy and minister of energy affairs.
QatarEnergy is the state-owned energy company of Qatar and one of the world’s largest LNG exporters. In Egypt, the company acquired a 27% participating interest in the Shell-operated North Cleopatra offshore exploration block in October 2025. QatarEnergy also holds a 23% interest in the adjacent North El Dabaa block, acquired from Chevron in November 2024, and a 40% interest in the Cairo and Masry offshore exploration blocks, acquired from ExxonMobil in May 2024.
