ABU DHABI, February 3, 2025 – South Korean EPC player Samsung E&A has been awarded a contract for the construction of a methanol plant at the Ruwais Industrial Complex in the UAE, the company announced on Monday.
The contract was awarded by Ta’aziz, a joint venture between ADNOC and Abu Dhabi-based investment and holding company ADQ, and is valued at USD 1.7 billion. Construction is expected to last 44 months. When complete, the plant will have a production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per year of methanol.
“We plan to leverage local resources and our network of partners based on our extensive regional experience in the Ruwais Industrial Complex. Samsung E&A will ensure the project’s success by applying our differentiated execution system, which integrates technologies such as modularisation and automation,” said Hong Namkoong, president and CEO of Samsung E&A.
Ta’aziz was established in 2020 to develop industrial projects within the Ruwais complex. The company is currently constructing plants for the production of low-carbon ammonia, methanol and polymers that are expected to come on line in 2027 and 2028.
