Senegal’s first offshore oil project comes on line
Senegal DAKAR, June 11, 2024 – Woodside Energy is celebrating first oil at the Sangomar project offshore Senegal, the company announced on Tuesday.
The Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 is a deepwater project with a standalone 100,000-bpd-capacity FPSO vessel, the Leopold Sedar Senghor. The vessel has a storage capacity of 1.3 million barrels.
The initial phase involved the drilling of 23 wells, including 11 for production, 10 for water injection and two for gas injection.
Its cost has been placed in the range of USD 4.9-billion-5.2 billion.
Production ramp-up will continue through 2024 and the project has subsea infrastructure in place to allow for further development phases.
Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill called the milestone “a historic day for Senegal and for Woodside.”
The Sangomar project, situated in the Rufisque, Sangomar, and Sangomar Deep (RSSD) concession, is under development by the RSSD joint venture, operated by Woodside with an 82% stake, working alongside Senegalese NOC Petrosen, which holds the remaining 18%.
