Serbia to call for bids on 400 MW of wind and solar

BELGRADE, March 1, 2024 – The government of Serbia plans to launch a bid round to procure at least 400 MW of wind and solar this year, PV Magazine reported on Thursday.
The bid round would mark the country’s second-ever renewables auction.
Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic unveiled the plans at EBRD Western Balkans Investment Summit in London.
In January, Handanovic announced that China has agreed to invest USD 2 billion in building wind and solar power plants, as well as a hydrogen production facility.
In August 2023, Serbia launched bidding for the construction of 1.2 GWp of solar plants and a minimum of 200 MW of battery storage.
A consortium of Hyundai Engineering, Hyundai ENG America and UGT Renewables was selected to carry out the projects.
Renewables made up 22% of Serbia’s power generation mix as of 2022, according to the IEA. The country plans to raise this share to 33.6% by 2030.
