Shell calls on Halliburton for Iraq job
THE HAGUE, January 19, 2017 – Shell has reportedly awarded a USD 210-million contract to Halliburton for drilling operations in Iraq’s super-giant Majnoon field.
The deal, announced by Reuters on Thursday, calls for 30 new wells in an effort to raise production from some 214,000 bopd to 400,000 bopd. Both entities have yet to comment on the matter directly.
Majnoon is Iraq’s third-largest oilfield, with some 38 billion barrels of oil in place. Its operator, Shell, holds a 45% interest, alongside Malaysia’s Petronas (30%) and Iraq’s Missan Oil Company (25%).
