Siemens and Technip partner on olefins cracker tech

Germany

BERLIN, October 6, 2021 – Siemens Energy and Technip have signed an MoU to develop rotating olefins cracker technology with the aim of lowering carbon dioxide emissions, the former company announced on Monday.

The aim is to decarbonise olefin production processes by using a dynamic reactor system that will replace conventional furnaces to manufacture light olefins, which are used in packaging and polymers.

The first prototype is expected in H2 2022.

The new technology is to be presented to the Cracker of the Future Consortium, a group of companies including Borealis, BP, Repsol, TotalEnergies, Eni and project coordinator Brightlands Chemelot Campus.
