Siemens Gamesa wins £1-billion turbine order
UK ZAMUDIO, November 12, 2024 – Siemens Gamesa, the wholly-owned wind business of Siemens Energy, has secured a wind turbine order worth more than GBP 1 million from ScottishPower for its East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm, Siemens Gamesa announced on Monday.
Located approximately 33 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk, East Anglia TWO will have a generation capacity of 960 MW, or enough to power the equivalent of almost 1 million households.
Under the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will supply 64 SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbines for what is ScottishPower’s third offshore wind project in the southern North Sea, with East Anglia ONE in operation, East Anglia THREE under construction and the supply chain for East Anglia TWO being put in place.
“The UK is the first leading industrial country to simultaneously phase out coal power and be a leader in offshore wind. If we’re to achieve our net zero targets, it’s mission critical this momentum is maintained,” said Darren Davidson, UK and Ireland vice-president for Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa.
