Siemens inks 18-year Qatar gas contract

DOHA, October 14, 2015 – Siemens has signed a long-term service and maintenance contract with Dolphin Energy for its gas project in Qatar.

The German technology giant saw its present contract extended by 18 years. The scope of work includes providing services and maintenance for nine Rolls-Royce aero-derivative gas turbines and their related Dresser-Rand compressors.

UAE-headquartered Dolphin Energy operates the Ras Laffan gas compression and processing complex in Qatar.

Siemens acquired Rolls-Royce’s gas turbine business in December of last year. The company also completed a purchase of Dresser-Rand in June.

A Siemens representative said the new order confirmed that the company was “on the right path” with the acquisitions. It now holds the world’s largest installed fleet of gas turbines, steam turbines and compressors.

The value of the contract extension was not immediately made public.

Dolphin Energy is 51-percent owned by the UAE’s Mubadala Development Company, with Total and US upstream firm Occidental Petroleum each holding 24.5 percent.
