SKE given greenlight for gas offshore Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, November 5, 2015 – SapuraKencana Energy (SKE) has been given the go ahead by state-run Petronas for its B15 gas development project on block SK 310 offshore Malaysia, the company announced on Wednesday.

The project will involve a central processing platform with a 35-kilometre gas pipeline tied into existing infrastructure. B15 is scheduled to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2017, and is expected to produce 2.83 mcm (100 mcf) of gas per day that will be fed into Petronas’ LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak.

SKE, the upstream division of Malaysia’s SapuraKencana Petroleum, is the operator of SK 310 with a 30-percent interest. The remaining shareholders include Petronas Cargali with 40 percent and Diamond Energy Sarawak, a local subsidiary of Mitsubishi, with 30 percent.

“The FDP approval from Petronas marks SKE’s first development in the upstream gas project in Malaysia. We will continue to pursue future gas development projects from our other successful gas discoveries in Malaysia which is part of SKE’s portfolio today,” SapuraKencana Petroleum CEO Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shahril Shamsuddin said in a statement.
