Statoil awards services work

Norway
Norway’s Statoil on Thursday awarded contracts with a combined value of some USD 600 million to contractors Archer, KCA Deutag and Odfjell Drilling for work on 17 offshore facilities in Norwegian waters.

To take effect on October 1, the contracts will see the trio provide drilling and well services, as well as take on maintenance and modifications works. For the mentioned companies the deal represents the second extension of contracts first awarded in 2012. Geir Tungesvik, drilling and well executive at Statoil, in a reaction said, “the current contracts will help maintain activity on competitive terms in a market challenged by profitability.”

The agreements covers four platforms in the Oseberg field, three installations in Gullfaks and another three in Statfjord. Archer, KCA Deutag and Odfjell Drilling will also work on two platforms at Snorre, as well as the Grane, Heidrun, Njord, Sleipner A and Visund units.

“Throughout the extension discussions we focussed on developing future-oriented operating models that provide safe, efficient and cost effective solutions,” Archer’s vice-president for platform drilling Kenny Dey said in a reaction. With the contract extension, the company now carries out services works on eight platforms offshore Norway.
