The Njord A platform may be updated to enable drilling operations.

Statoil may delay Njord decision

Norway

OSLO, May 8, 2015 – Norwegian exploration and production company Statoil will likely delay its final decision on future development at the offshore Njord oil and gasfield, according to oil and gas news site Upstream Online.

The company told Upstream Online it had proposed that the final decision on the Njord Future project, originally scheduled for autumn, be delayed until the summer of 2016.

The company is also considering refurbishing its Njord A platform in lieu of installing a new facility for drilling and production, Upstream Online reported. The platform is currently only equipped for production. The possibility of building a new platform is still in consideration, but the updating of Njord A is considered the favored option.

The company said the delay would enable it to incorporate ongoing exploration in the area into its project plan.

Production recommenced at the Njord A platform in July following a shutdown to allow for reinforcement of the platform structure in 2013.
