Subsea7 secures contract for Norway’s Northern Lights project

BERGEN, March 31, 2025 – Subsea7 has won a “significant” contract from Equinor to provide technical services for the Northern Lights phase 2 carbon capture and storage project offshore Norway, the company said on Monday.

The contract includes engineering, procurement, construction and installation of a 5-kilometre CO2 pipeline, along with the installation of integrated satellite structures, umbilicals, tie-in and pre-commissioning activities.

Last week, Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies made an FID to advance phase two of the CCS project. It followed a commercial agreement with Stockholm Exergi to transport and store 900,000 tonnes of biogenic CO2 annually for 15 years.

Project management and engineering will begin immediately at Subsea7’s office in Stavanger, Norway. Fabrication of the pipeline will take place at Subsea7’s spoolbase in Vigra, Norway, with offshore operations planned for 2026 and 2027.

Northern Lights phase 2 is backed by a grant from the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy funding scheme.
