Subsea7 wins contract for Sparta deepwater project in USA

HOUSTON, April 4, 2025 – Subsea7 has secured a contract from Shell Offshore for the Sparta deepwater development in the USA, the company said on Friday.

The project includes the transportation and installation of a floating production system at Garden Banks block 959, located off the southeastern coast of Louisiana at water depths of up to 1,635 metres.

Sparta is a deepwater oil and gas development operated by Shell (51%), working alongside partner Equinor (49%).

The project will utilise a semi-submersible floating production unit and will be tied back to existing infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico. It is designed to support long-term hydrocarbon production from the region.

Project management and engineering will begin immediately at Subsea7’s Houston office, with offshore operations scheduled to start in 2027.

“We are proud to continue our collaboration with Shell in the USA, building on past projects, including the recent Vito development. We look forward to playing a key role in the successful delivery of the Sparta project,” senior vice-president for Subsea7 Gulf of Mexico Craig Broussard said.

Subsea7 classifies a sizeable contract as being valued between USD 50 million-150 million.
