Technip bags subsea contract for Layang
KUALA LUMPUR, October 22, 2015 – French company Technip has been awarded a contract for subsea work on the Layang field development, operated by Japanese joint venture JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia), the offshore services provider announced Thursday.
Under the contract, Technip will conduct engineering, procurement, construction, fabrication, installation and commissioning work for three flexible subsea pipelines that will connect the new Layang floating production, storage and offloading vessel to the field’s shallow-water platforms. The pipelines, totalling 9.9 kilometres, will include two production risers and flowlines, as well as one gas export riser and flowline. Technip expects to complete the installation of the subsea infrastructure in the second half of 2016.
The field, located offshore Sarawak at a water depth of about 90 metres, is being developed by JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration, which holds a 75-percent stake, and by state-owned Petronas Carigali, which holds the remaining 25 percent.
JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration holds a 78.7-percent share in the joint venture. Other shareholders include Japanese companies Inpex Corporation (15 percent) and Mitsubishi Corporation (6.3 percent)
