Technip Energies wins FEED contract for Australia SAF project

TOWNSVILLE, April 16, 2025 – Technip Energies has won a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for Project Ulysses, a bioethanol-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development in Townsville by Jet Zero in Australia, the company said on Wednesday.
The scope of the FEED includes engineering tasks, planning and documentation to refine project cost estimates and establish execution timelines.
The facility aims to produce 102 million litres of SAF and 11 million litres of renewable diesel annually by 2028, using Australian bioethanol as feedstock. The production process will integrate Technip Energies’ Hummingbird technology to convert bioethanol into sustainable ethylene, followed by LanzaJet’s alcohol-to-jet process to produce SAF.
“We are very pleased to see Project Ulysses moving forward to provide the first alcohol-to-jet SAF plant in Australia,” Technip Energies senior vice-president for sustainable fuels, chemicals and circularity Sylvain Cabalery said.
“With the global aviation industry looking for ways to further secure their supply and lower emissions, Technip Energies and LanzaJet integrated technology is a smart solution, bringing energy security while at the same time eliminating up to 70% of greenhouse gas emissions.”
