Total finds gas in Norway’s North Sea
Norway Drilling revealed a net 10-metre gas column in a high-quality Middle Jurassic Hugin formation. Early estimates place recoverable hydrocarbons reserves at between 2.5 and 9.4 million barrels of oil equivalent. The well was spudded on March 13 and reached a depth of 2,366 metres below the sea.
The discovery lies near the Skirne field, which is operated by Total (40-percent stake) along with Norwegian exploration and development company Det Norske, UK field operator Centrica Resources and UK exploration company Faroe Petroleum, with each company holding a 20-percent stake.
