TotalEnergies begins final construction phase of GGIP in Iraq

BAGHDAD, September 15, 2025 – TotalEnergies has launched the final two major projects of Iraq’s Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), including full field development of the Ratawi oilfield and the 5 million-barrel-per-day Common Seawater Supply Project, the company announced on Monday.

The Ratawi development aims to boost oil production to 210,000 bopd by 2028 without routine flaring, while the CSSP will help conserve freshwater resources by substituting treated seawater for injection into oilfields.

These two developments follow the early 2025 launch of a 300 mcf/d gas processing facility and a 1 GWac solar plant, placing all four components of the GGIP—gas, oil, solar and water—into execution.

Construction is ongoing with 2,700 workers, including 2,000 Iraqis, and will peak at 7,000 Iraqi workers.

Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, said: “All these projects will bring a significant contribution to the Iraq economy and employ during the construction phase 7,000 Iraqi nationals.”

The CSSP, located near Um Qasr, is expected to release 250,000 cubic metres of freshwater daily for agriculture by replacing current extraction from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

The Ratawi project includes an Early Production Facility for 1.42 mcm (50 mcf) per day of associated gas in 2026 and will support the national power grid with gas from three fields processed by the GMP, powering plants for 1.5 million Iraqi households.

TotalEnergies operates GGIP with a 45% stake, alongside Basra Oil Company (30%) and QatarEnergy (25%).
