TotalEnergies begins green hydrogen project in Chile

Chile

SANTIAGO, December 2, 2021 – Total Eren has begun studies to develop a 10-GW wind installation in southern Chile for large-scale green hydrogen production, TotalEnergie’s renewables arm announced on Thursday.

The H2 Magallanes project located in San Gregorio will also have an electrolysis capacity of 8 GW, a desalination plant, an ammonia plant and port facilities for export.

The site has already been secured and is expected to hold the world’s best onshore conditions for wind development.

The project is expected to start in 2025, with first production of green hydrogen in 2027.

The project is in line with Chile’s target of 25 GW of green hydrogen production in the energy mix by 2030.
