Australia opens GHG offshore bidding round

Australia

CANBERRA, December 6, 2021 – Australia has begun a bidding round for offshore greenhouse gas storage, the government announced on Monday.

The area covers five sites located in Northern Territory and Western Australia on Bonaparte, Browse and Northern Carnarvon basins.

It is the first bidding round of its kind since 2014.

Chevron announced in November 2021 that it would invest USD 28 million in carbon capture projects in Western Australia.

Australian energy independent Santos also took its final investment decision on the USD 165-million Moomba carbon capture and storage facility in November 2021.
