TotalEnergies, Galp affirm long-term Namibia commitment in presidential meeting
WINDHOEK, January 30, 2026 – TotalEnergies and Galp reaffirmed their long-term commitment to Namibia’s energy sector in a high-level meeting with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the companies said on Thursday.
The meeting follows the recent deal through which TotalEnergies will assume operatorship of a key offshore licence in the Orange Basin, while Galp will gain entry into two neighbouring blocks. The companies discussed the transaction’s progress, upcoming exploration and development campaigns and the regulatory support required to enable a potential final investment decision on the Venus discovery in 2026.
A three-well campaign is planned at the Mopane site in 2026 to appraise the resource and advance it toward development. Both companies highlighted their alignment in creating a regional deepwater energy hub and contributing to local employment, skills and industrial growth.
“Our partnership with Galp marks an important milestone as Namibia prepares to become an important energy‑producing nation,” TotalEnergies chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné said. “Together, we are committed to developing the country’s deepwater potential responsibly and efficiently.”
“Our commitment to Namibia has never been stronger. We are confident that this geography will emerge as a relevant future global energy ecosystem,” Galp chairman Paula Amorim said.
In Namibia, TotalEnergies is expanding its upstream portfolio through recent offshore discoveries and partnerships.
Portugal’s Galp has a growing footprint in Africa. The company is investing in deepwater exploration and regional partnerships to support its long-term growth strategy.
