GeoPark acquires Frontera’s Colombian assets in $600-million move

BOGOTA, January 30, 2026 – Latin American-focused GeoPark has signed a USD 600-million agreement to acquire Frontera Energy’s upstream assets in Colombia, a move that will establish it as the country’s largest privately held oil and gas operator, the companies said on Friday.

The acquisition covers 17 blocks across the Llanos and Lower Magdalena basins and will double GeoPark’s production and reserves across Colombia and Argentina. The deal includes USD 375 million payable at closing, an additional USD 25 million contingent on development milestones and the assumption of USD 389 million in debt.

GeoPark expects the combined portfolio to deliver more than 92,000 boepd by 2028 and generate around USD 950 million in EBITDA. Synergies are forecast to reach USD 30 million-50 million annually by 2027, while no equity issuance is planned.

“Today’s announcement marks an important milestone in GeoPark’s growth trajectory,” GeoPark chief executive Felipe Bayon said. “This transaction enables a full-field development approach… allowing us to extend plateau production, capture synergies and reinvest efficiently.”

The acquired assets include large-scale producing fields such as Quifa, along with exploration upside in areas like Cubiro. GeoPark plans to apply a full-field development strategy supported by increased drilling, water management and facilities upgrades.

Frontera Energy is a Canada-based oil and gas company with operations focused in Latin America, primarily Colombia and Ecuador. It holds a diversified portfolio of producing and exploration assets and has been a long-time operator in Colombia’s Llanos and Magdalena basins.

GeoPark is an independent oil and gas company with operations in Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Ecuador. In Colombia, it holds core acreage in the Llanos and Putumayo basins and is expanding its unconventional portfolio in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta formation.
