TotalEnergies’ renewables arm eyes 30 GW in Australia

Australia

PERTH, March 14, 2023 – Total Eren has identified up to 30 GW of renewables projects in its hydrogen development plans for Australia, the renewable energy developer announced on Friday.

The assets will be located across the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

The move follows Total Eren’s decision to exit the 8-GW HyEnergy green hydrogen project in Gascoyne, Western Australia, announced by Province Resources on March 7, 2023.

The latter entity plans to progress on the fully-funded project’s feasibility studies.

TotalEnergies owns a 30% majority stake in Total Eren and is due to take control in 2023.

Total Eren operates the 256-MW Kiamal solar farm. The second stage of the project will see 194 MW added and feature Australia’s first DC-coupled inverters. Construction on the second phase is expected to begin in 2023.
