TotalEnergies teams up with Sonatrach in Timimoun

Algeria

ALGIERS, April 9, 2024 – French super-major TotalEnergies and Algerian NOC Sonatrach have signed an MoU for the appraisal and development of gas resources in Algeria’s Timimoun region, the companies announced on Monday.

The agreement, which aims to evolve into a hydrocarbon contract, outlines a work program for the development of gas resources in northeast Timimoun in synergy with existing production facilities in the Timimoun field, with a view to reducing costs and emissions.

Earlier this year, the companies had agreed to extend an existing LNG supply contract, with renewal terms calling for Sonatrach to deliver 2 million tonnes of LNG to TotalEnergies in 2025 at the port of Fos-Cavaou, near Marseille.

The companies also have a standing agreement to co-operate on renewables projects in Algeria such as the solarization of exploration and production sites and the development of facilities to produce low-carbon hydrogen for export.
