Transocean signs $400-mln drillship deal in Brazil

BRASíLIA, February 1, 2023 – Transocean has been awarded a contract for the provision of an ultra-deepwater drillship in Brazil, the American offshore drilling company announced on Tuesday.

Transocean estimates the contract to be worth USD 392 million excluding a mobilisation fee worth 90 times the contract day rate, making the deal worth upwards of USD 400 million.

Operations are expected to begin in Q3 2023 by the Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2, which has the capacity to operate in water depths of up to 3,660 metres and drill to 10,700 metres.

Built in 2010, the vessel has remained idle since January 2022.

Transocean has three drillships currently contracted in Brazil by NOC Petrobras, the Deepwater Corcovado, Deepwater Mykonos and Petrobras 10000.

The company’s global fleet consists of 28 ultra-deepwater floaters and 10 harsh-environment floaters.
