Trial operations begin at Duqm refinery in Oman

MUSCAT, April 5, 2023 – Trial operations have begun at the 230,000-bpd refinery in Duqm, Oman, the operating company announced on Monday.

The refinery located 600-kilometres south of Muscat houses a hydrocracking unit and a petroleum coke unit that will produce LPG, naphtha, jet fuel, diesel, sulphur and petroleum coke when fully operational.

All units at the facility are currently 97.5% complete.

Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2023.

The asset is operated by Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company or OQ8, which is a joint venture between Omani NOC OQ and Kuwait Petroleum International.

In January 2023, the Ras Markaz crude oil storage and export terminal received its first shipment of oil, which will be linked to the refinery via an 80-kilometre pipeline.
