Trinidad welcomes first low-exhaust tug
Trinidad and Tobago The newbuild 60-tonne bollard-pull tug, christened the National Energy Resilience, is IMO Tier III-certified with technologies that reduce its nitrous oxide emissions by 80%.
“This is a significant reduction in emissions of a greenhouse gas that is 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide,” National Energy chairman Joseph Khan said in a press release.
This makes it the lowest-emissions tug operating in Trinidad and Tobago, ranking second in the Caribbean region, according to the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries.
A commissioning ceremony was held by National Energy in the presence of Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young, among with marine and energy sector stakeholders.
