Turkey signs onshore exploration deal with Somalia

VANCOUVER, October 28, 2024 – Turkish state-owned energy company TPAO has signed a deal with the Somali Petroleum Authority to jointly conduct onshore oil and gas exploration in the east African country, Reuters reported on Friday.
The agreement was revealed Friday in comments by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.
In July, Reuters reported that Turkey had agreed to deploy an oil and gas exploration vessel to Somalia later in the year. The deal gave Turkey the exclusive rights to explore and produce from the blocks, which it planned to explore using the Oruç Reis seismic vessel. The vessel arrived in Mogadishu earlier this month.
Somalia’s offshore also made headlines in March, when Liberty Petroleum signed PSAs for three deepwater exploration blocks.
