UAE’s ENEC launches nuclear energy consulting arm
ABU DHABI, January 27, 2025 – Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), the entity responsible for the development and operation of nuclear energy plants in the UAE, has established ENEC Consulting, an advisory subsidiary to support civil nuclear energy programmes and infrastructure, ENEC announced on Wednesday.
The new company will focus on developing comprehensive designs for nuclear plants, supplying services that will include strategic advisory, project management and capacity building.
ENEC Consulting will seek to replicate abroad the achievements of the UAE’s Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program, which saw the full operational launch in September of 2024 of the flagship Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. The plant now delivers approximately 75% of the country’s grid electricity and is a key piece in the country’s strategy to decarbonise.
Speaking to the Financial Times this week, ENEC CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi said the company will explore opportunities beyond the UAE, particularly in the US, where electricity demand from the data centres used to power AI is set to rise. “All the available energy in the US has been consumed over the last 18 to 19 months, and that is why they are even going after brownfield sites to restart some old [nuclear] units.”
ENEC Consulting aims to help clients establish oversight mechanisms for safe and efficient project delivery, drawing on its expertise in project management, regulatory frameworks, financing models and workforce development.
“Barakah showcases that nuclear energy projects can be delivered on time, cost efficiently, and in full compliance with national and international standards. Our mission at ENEC Consulting is to support other countries and organizations seeking to integrate nuclear energy into their clean energy strategies,” said Mohamed Al Braiki, General Manager of ENEC Consulting.
