Ukraine expects Russia gas deal Friday

Ukraine
Ukraine’s energy and coal industry minister has a said a gas deal between his country and Russia will likely be signed on Friday.

“The position has already been formed and I think that the meeting will take place on Friday, and the protocol will be signed,” Volodymyr Demchyshyn was quoted by Ukraine’s Interfax news agency as saying.

Gas exports from Russia to Ukraine have been suspended since July 1, when representatives of the two countries failed to agree on a price for new shipments.

The minister said last week that a deal was likely to be reached, and that that $220 per thousand cubic metres would be an acceptable price for supplies from Russia.
