QUINTON, OK, January 26, 2018 – The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the US Chemical Safety Board will open separate investigations into a deadly well explosion in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, local media reported on Thursday.
The blast, which claimed the lives of five workers, took place on Monday in a well operated by Red Mountain Energy and drilled by Patterson-UTI Energy. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission has blamed the accident on an uncontrolled gas leak, KFOR-TV reported.
“We are actively investigating the cause of the tragedy so that we can learn from it and protect against it happening again,” Patterson-UTI said in a statement.
