Nigeria pipeline blast

Vandalised pipeline explodes in Nigeria

LAGOS, July 3, 2018 – A previously vandalised pipeline has exploded in Ogun state, Nigeria, local media reported Monday.

The exact cause of the explosion is unknown, but a valve was reportedly left open and leaking fuel after the pipeline was vandalised the week before. Rescue workers continued efforts to extinguish the fire on Monday, Pulse Nigeria reported. The casualty figure has not yet been determined.

The incident comes days after an oil tanker fire killed at least nine people in Lagos and following clashes between pipeline security contractors and locals at Atlas Cove.
