Wales greenlights first floating wind project

CARDIFF, March 15, 2023 – The Welsh government has granted consent to develop the country’s first floating wind farm, partner Simply Blue Group announced on Tuesday.

The Erebus offshore wind project will be located around 40 kilometres off the coastline of Pembrokeshire on water depths of 75 metres and will have a capacity to produce 96 MW, enough to power around 100,000 homes.

Development works will include construction of around seven 14-MW turbines linked to semi-submersible steel hulls.

The asset is expected to be commissioned in 2026.

The Blue Gem Wind consortium leads the project, which is a joint venture between TotalEnergies and Simply Blue Group.
