Woodside reaches FID on $17.5-billion Louisiana LNG project
PERTH, April 29, 2025 – Woodside has reached a positive FID to develop the greenfield Louisiana LNG project in the USA, the company announced on Tuesday.
Louisiana LNG will have three liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per year (tpy) that are expected to come on line in 2029 and expansion capacity for two additional trains. The facility is permitted for up to 27.6 million tpy.
Capex towards the project is estimated at USD 17.5 billion, of which USD 5.7 billion will be provided by alternative investment firm Stonepeak, which holds a 40% stake in the project. Stonepeak’s portion will be provided on an accelerated basis and cover 75% of capex in 2025 and 2026.
“This world-class project is a compelling and de-risked investment. It leverages Woodside’s proven strengths in project execution, operational excellence, marketing and customer relationships to offer significant cash generation and drive long-term shareholder value,” said Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill.
Louisiana LNG will bring Woodside’s global LNG capacity to approximately 24 million tpy, or around 5% of global LNG supply, according to Wood Mackenzie calculations.
