Workers trapped in Niger Delta rig fire

LAGOS, May 28, 2018 – A total of 28 oil workers are trapped on a Niger Delta rig that caught fire Saturday, local media reported Monday.

 

At least 100 workers have been rescued from the Majestic platform at a block operated by Conoil in Bayelsa state, but 28 remain trapped on board, Leadership reported. 

The blaze started early on Saturday, and firefighters were flown to the area to bring it under control. The Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta had stated Saturday that all personnel had been evacuated.

The Majestic vessel is owned by Depthwize Nigeria. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
