YPF changes fuel pricing scheme

BUENOS AIRES, January 16, 2018 – Argentina’s state-owned YPF is modifying the way it determines petrol and diesel prices for the first time in its history, local media reported Monday.

To determine prices, the NOC will take different variables into account, including time of fuel dispatch, product availability and demand, and location. These changes are expected to allow YPF to better compete with private fuel retailers in the country. It has not yet been made public when the new pricing system will go into effect.

In October 2017, Argentina’s Ministry of Energy and Mining allowed the country’s fuel prices to be set by the free market, opening the door for YPF to change its fuel marketing scheme.

The NOC currently holds around 55-60% of the domestic fuel retail market.
