Romania auctions 1.5 GW of wind and solar
Romania BUCHAREST, September 10, 2024 – The Romanian government is holding the country’s first auction for renewable energy capacity, allocating 1.5 GW in wind and solar projects, PV Magazine reported on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Energy is seeking bids for 1 GW of wind installations and 500 MW of solar.
The procurement process is expected to finish on March 25, 2025.
Romania is targeting a 36% share for renewables in its energy mix by 2030, which includes 8.3 GW from solar and 7.6 GW from wind. Its renewables sector is currently dominated by hydropower.
As of the end of 2023, the country had a total of 1.91 GW of solar PV and CSP and 3.09 GW of wind power installed, according to the latest edition of the EI Statistical Report.
