Qatar orders six mega-size LNG vessels from China
DOHA, September 10, 2024 – QatarEnergy has signed an agreement to purchase six QC-Max LNG carriers from China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the company said on Monday.
The vessels – the largest LNG carriers every built, each with a capacity of 271,000 cubic metres – will be constructed at CSSC subsidiary Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard and will be delivered between 2028 and 2031.
The move brings the total number of LNG vessels on order under the company’s fleet expansion programme to 128, including 24 QC-Max vessels.
The company reported the 24 vessels’ total value as USD 8 billion, meaning Monday’s deal may be valued at close to USD 2 billion.
QatarEnergy also recently ordered 18 QC-Max vessels from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard.
“We look forward to receiving these advanced LNG vessels and expanding our role in providing the world with the cleaner energy needed for a realistic and practical energy transition,” Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said.
