Woodside and Aramco eye Louisiana LNG equity, offtake deal
PERTH, May 14, 2025 – Woodside Energy and Saudi Aramco have signed a non-binding agreement to explore a collaboration in Woodside’s Louisiana LNG project and work together on lower-carbon ammonia developments, Woodside announced on Wednesday.
The agreement includes Aramco potentially acquiring an equity stake in the 27.6-tonne-per-year Louisiana LNG liquefaction facility in the USA, on which Woodside reached a positive FID in April 2025. Under the agreement, Aramco could also become an LNG offtaker from the project.
“This collaboration aligns with Woodside’s vision to build a diverse and resilient global portfolio. It leverages our growing relationship with one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals companies to explore new opportunities which deliver value for both parties. It is also another demonstration of the ongoing interest Louisiana LNG is generating among high-quality potential investors, following our recent agreement with Stonepeak to acquire a 40% interest in the project’s infrastructure holding company,” said Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill.
In April 2025, global investment firm Stonepeak acquired a 40% stake in Louisiana LNG for USD 5.7 billion and committed to contributing 75% of the capital expenditure for 2025 and 2026. Woodside is targeting first LNG in 2029.
