Acwa launches battery storage system in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, February 17, 2026 – Saudi Arabia’s Acwa has begun commercial operations of its 501-MWh battery energy storage system at the Riverside solar project in Uzbekistan, Zawya reported on Tuesday, citing a stock exchange filing.

The facility, located in the Tashkent region, is tied to a 200-MW solar plant and has been developed under a 25-year power purchase agreement with the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan. Acwa received formal confirmation of full operations from its wholly owned project company on February 11, per the report.

The project was delivered on a build-own-operate-transfer basis. It marks a milestone in Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand its renewables grid with integrated storage infrastructure.

“The start-up marks a milestone in Uzbekistan’s efforts to integrate renewable energy capacity with grid-scale storage,” Acwa said.

Acwa is a Saudi-listed developer, investor and operator of power generation and water desalination projects with presence in over 12 countries. It is expanding aggressively across Central Asia and the Middle East with a focus on renewables, green hydrogen and storage technologies.
