QatarEnergy awards EPC contract for 16-million-tpy LNG expansion
DOHA, February 25, 2026 – QatarEnergy has awarded an EPC contract for the 16-million-tpy North Field West LNG expansion in Qatar, the final phase of its plan to raise national production capacity to 142 million tpy, the company said on Wednesday.
The contract was granted to a joint venture of Technip Energies, Consolidated Contractors Company and Gulf Asia Contractor and covers two LNG mega-trains with combined capacity of 16 million tpy and associated gas treatment, natural gas liquids and helium facilities. The project is expected to produce about 175,000 boepd of condensate, ethane and LPG, with first LNG scheduled by the end of 2031.
“This contract represents an important addition to the world’s largest LNG expansion project and reinforces Qatar’s commitment to meeting the growing global LNG demand,” QatarEnergy president and CEO Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said.
The development follows the 32-million-tpy North Field East and 16-million-tpy North Field South projects and includes carbon capture and sequestration capacity of 1.1 million tpy as part of a target to capture and sequester more than 11 million tpy of CO2 by 2035. Jetty boil-off gas recovery facilities will recover the equivalent of 0.42 million tonnes per year of CO2 and a significant portion of the project’s power demand will be sourced from Qatar’s solar plants.
QatarEnergy is Qatar’s state-owned energy company, overseeing upstream gas production and LNG operations linked to the North Field, the world’s largest non-associated gasfield. Through QatarEnergy LNG and international partnerships, it supplies LNG to markets across Asia and Europe and is expanding its portfolio in LNG, petrochemicals and low-carbon projects.
