A localisation partner in the Saudi energy equipment segment
July 11, 2025Saud Al Shammary, general manager of Saudi Fal, talks to The Energy Year about developing manufacturing capabilities to meet the needs of Saudi Arabia’s energy industry and the company's expansion plans in the GCC. Saudi Fal is a Saudi manufacturer of valves, field instruments, process automation and control systems.
What products and services does Saudi Fal offer to Saudi Arabia’s energy industry?
Saudi Fal, a subsidiary of Fal Holdings, has been a key player in the energy industry since its establishment in 1984. We are part of a diversified group of 17 companies that supply instrumentation, control systems and valves to a wide range of industries. We had an early collaboration with Emerson, and over the years, we expanded our offerings from oil and gas to petrochemical, refining, power, water, pharmaceuticals and food and beverage applications.
We offer manual and automated valves, pressure and temperature transmitters, level and flow control systems and various types of analysers, but we are not just suppliers; we also provide installation, construction and maintenance services, and we are full-service EPC contractors. We handle everything from project execution to after-sales service.
We are committed to localisation. In 2011, we inaugurated a 15,000-square-metre manufacturing facility in Jubail, yet to extend our localisation efforts, we also have a facility in Yanbu Industrial City. Both facilities are manufacturing integrators and perform all types of valve overhauls by Saudi engineers trained in-house, as well as shutdown and turnaround services.
As part of our diversification efforts, we are expanding into pumps and rotating equipment, including water and gas pumps, turbines and transformers, which are all serviced domestically.
How has your partnership with Emerson evolved over time?
Our product portfolio is the cornerstone of our operations. Our collaboration with Emerson spans more than 40 years, and it has been central to our success. We are working on joint ventures with OEMs to begin manufacturing other products under the Saudi Fal name, further expanding our capabilities and solidifying our role as a key player in the energy sector.
What can Saudi Fal offer to international partners looking to enter the Saudi market?
Market research and risk management are crucial for any foreign investor considering entering Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Fal is uniquely positioned to support international companies. We have the infrastructure, resources and expertise to help them establish operations. With our manufacturing facilities, skilled workforce and financial backing, we can serve as a local partner and take on a significant portion of the investment and operational responsibilities.
Saudi Arabia offers tremendous growth potential for companies looking to do business in the Middle East and Africa. We have seen increasing interest from companies from the USA, Europe, Japan and China, and from emerging economies such as Brazil and Russia, who are eager to tap into the Saudi market.
Saudi Fal specialises in instrumentation and control systems, but we are open to partnering with companies that offer other products with limited domestic competition. We align with Vision 2030 by welcoming international businesses to operate and invest in Saudi Arabia and fostering a more diverse and competitive market.
What are Saudi Fal’s goals for the next five years?
We also want to embrace digitalisation and AI to stay at the forefront of the industry, and we have already established strategic partnerships with companies in these fields. In the next five years, we aim to expand beyond our role as a domestic vendor of valves, instrumentation and control systems. We are in the process of launching a facility to fabricate skids; we expect to announce it soon.
