National Iranian Gas Company

Growing Iran's gas network

The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) was established as one of the four main affiliate companies of the Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum. The company is responsible for the processing, transmission and delivery of natural gas to the domestic, industrial and commercial sectors, as well as to power plants. It presides over the largest gas network in the Middle East, comprising more than 35,500 kilometres of pipelines and including the expansive Iran Gas Trunkline (IGAT) network. NIGC’s trunklines serve more than 20 million users in 1,000 cities and 20,000 villages.

  • NIGEC: NIGC oversees the National Iranian Gas Export Company, which exports Iranian gas, in addition to managing all of Iran’s overseas gas pipeline and LNG projects.
  • Projects: The company has seven refineries under its management and is involved in the South Pars gas mega-project.

NIGC aims to rank third among natural gas producers in the world and achieve 8-10% of the global gas trade share by 2025. A second goal is to rank first in the region in terms of gas technology. Iran has one of the world’s highest rates of gas flaring at its oilfields and reducing this figure is another significant target for the company.
