ACWA Power and Bapco Energies sign solar development deal
RIYADH, December 11, 2025 – ACWA Power of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain’s Bapco Energies have signed a joint development agreement to build a solar power plant in Saudi Arabia that will supply electricity to Bahrain, the companies announced on Tuesday.
The project will be located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and is planned to reach up to 2.8 GW in capacity over several phases, and will include large-scale battery energy storage. The plant will be linked to Bapco Energies’ load centre in Bahrain and contribute to meeting the country’s electricity demand and decarbonisation goals.
The agreement was announced during the Saudi-Bahraini Coordination Council meeting and supports both nations’ long-term energy strategies by enhancing cross-border clean energy integration in the Gulf.
“This joint agreement with Bapco Energies is a testament to the strong bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and our shared commitment to a sustainable and secure energy future. The project aligns not only with Vision 2030 but also with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and its national ambitions to expand clean energy,” said Raad Al Saady, vice-chairman and managing director of ACWA Power.
ACWA Power is a Saudi developer and operator of power and water desalination projects. Its portfolio includes large-scale renewable and conventional energy projects in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Bapco Energies is Bahrain’s national energy investment company and is responsible for managing and developing energy projects in line with the country’s energy strategy.
